The 1st East Grinstead Tuesday Scout Troop is the oldest troop in the District and is one of the oldest in the country. It was started in 1908 by Dr Walker as a gym display team, and went around the world giving displays. As we now enter our second century you can see a detailed history of our first on our centenary website.
The troop is part of the 1st East Grinstead Scout Group, which is made up of 2 units of each in Beavers, Cub Scouts, & Scouts. We also host one of our District Explorer Scout Units, Griffin. We have been at the same location in the town since we started, original HQ in 1981/1982. The hall is located in the center of town with various Playing areas and leisure activities close by. Numbers in the troop are around 40 at present, made up of girls and boys aged 10 and a half - 14. These are placed into patrols of about 6-8 members.
We meet as you may have guessed on Tuesday evenings and run from 7.00 - 9.00 (sometimes later in the summer months). We are a very active troop, and take part in all district run events including hiking, swimming, rifle shooting and basketball, as well as our own group events. We also organise many camps and activities through the year with the scouts contributing to the program content. |
